Let the Renovation Begin!

Our church renovation is scheduled to begin the second week in May!

We have secured financing from Capstone Mortgage Company, signed the contract with SilverCreek Construction, and have received word from the city that our permits should be in place by May.

What to expect from our renovation?

  • Our builder is planning on a two-month renovation, three at the most.

  • The renovation will see our front entrances demolished and a single 700 square foot entranceway built, which will include a washroom and an accessibility lift.

  • A new basement exit will be installed from the kitchen to meet building code requirements for two separate exits from the building.

  • We will gain a new hallway in the basement adjacent to the main room so that people can move from one end of the basement to the other without disturbing the Sunday School.

  • The flow of people around the building will be greatly improved and the project will tie in the office area with the main entrance way.

What is our financing commitment?

  • We have received approval from Capstone Mortgage Company for a loan of $200,000.00 for a 10-year amortization at 6.85% interest.  TD Bank was only willing to lend us $75,000.00.

  • Our goal is to borrow as little as possible, so please pray and give the best gift you can for the lift. The more we give, the less we will have to borrow!

  • Capstone Mortgage is a Christian lending company who only lends to churches and Christian organizations.  So even though we will be paying interest, those interest payments will be reinvested in other churches who also need to borrow funds for their projects.

  • The mortgage will be open at first to allow us to pay down as much as possible as the project comes to an end, and then it will be locked in with terms and conditions comparable to a bank mortgage.

  • Our goal is to lock in as little as possible. The more we give to this project the less we will have to borrow. Give well!

Working with the City of Toronto

  • The city of Toronto has continued to be challenging, but after many phone calls and emails, we have made a great deal of progress and our architect is confident that we will have our permits in place by May 1st.  But, as we have learned, anything can happen with the city.  We ask everyone to pray daily for this process so that nothing will hold up the timeline for the renovation.

  • If the timeline is held up by the city, it could be very detrimental to our church as we would lose the current price and be left working towards 2025 before we could begin this process again. We may also incur financial losses if the project is delayed.

Our Renovation Ministry Plan

What will Sundays be like during the renovation?

During the renovation we will have only one door to access the building – the fire escape which enters pastor Greg’s office.  We are only permitted to have 60 people in the building until more than one door is available.  So how will we worship together?

  • We will divide each service in two with 60 people in the sanctuary and 60 people in the portable.  We will invite our seniors to worship in the portable and our younger people and more mobile people to enter through the fire escape and worship in the sanctuary.

  • Both rooms will have live worship with our worship leaders and musicians, and each room will have either pastor Dan or pastor Greg with them.

  • To reach both locations with the Word, we will try different approaches such as preaching in the sanctuary and livestreaming to the portable, or if possible, we will offer live preaching in both rooms.

  • In this unique situation we will be creative, have fun, and celebrate what God is doing to bring our building up to date and make it accessible to all!

  • We will also have a few services outside when we can.

  • We hope to have a full Sunday school outside, under the tents, when the weather is good. And since pastor Greg’s office is going to be the church entrance for two months, pastor Dan’s office will become the nursery!

  • We will have a team of elders, trustees, ushers and volunteers to help set up each Sunday morning and guide everyone from week to week as we work around the renovation.

  • Most midweek ministries will continue with some modifications since we will have to use the portable for almost all ministry during the renovation.

What can you do?

  • Give a Gift to the Lift.  We need every member of the congregation, every household, to give a sacrificial gift for the lift.  $50, $500, $5000.00 – the best you can! Without everyone’s participation we will not reach our goal of $100,000.00 and we will end up with an expensive mortgage.  Please give a gift to the lift!

  • Volunteer to set-up Sunday morning.  Each Sunday we will need the portable set up for a worship service, and, in good weather, tents set up outside the portable for the children to have Sunday school.  We will also need extra ushers and door monitors to help people find their way into worship services during the renovation

  • Work, both before and after the renovation.  Before the renovation begins we have to get a number of rooms ready, which means emptying them out, moving furniture and removing a great deal of garbage from the basement.  We will host a Renovation Ready Day on Saturday, May 4.  We will need at least 20 or 30 people to volunteer on that day in order to get the building ready for the renovation.

  • As the renovation wraps up we want to tackle a number of outstanding issues in the main building including: painting all of the rooms, a small renovation project in the office area and put down new flooring in the main room in the basement.  These are not currently part of the renovation and we will only attempt these projects if our funding is strong and we finish the renovation with available funds.

Finally, during the renovation project was ask every member of the congregation to pray for renovation blessings and future growth at HPBC.  A renovation blessing is what we call, “no surprises!”  Construction surprises can be very costly when something is discovered that needs to be repaired before the renovation can continue.  Pray that there will be no costly surprises and that the funds that God has so kindly provided us will be sufficient for all our needs.

Also, pray that God would continue to bless us with His increase; some plant, some water, but God brings the growth.  We are abundantly blessed that God has chosen to grow our local church, and this renovation project gives us a better building to welcome that growth.  But the best asset we have is the amazing congregation of HPBC.  Keep up the good work; care for each other, support the ministry and welcome all those who come to find healing and salvation in Christ.

Blessings, and let the renovation begin!

Pastor Dan

    Dates to Remember:

  • May 10th – Target start date.

  • May 4th – Renovation Ready Day – volunteers needed.

  • April 21st – Praise and Worship Fundraiser.

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus Himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'   Acts 20:35

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm.

Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord,

because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.     1 Cor. 15:58
